1.1 Background of the Study
Improved sanitation is crucial for public health, yet many communities in Nigeria, including those in Dikwa Local Government Area (LGA), Borno State, face significant challenges in accessing proper sanitation facilities. Poor sanitation practices contribute to the spread of preventable diseases, adversely affecting the well-being of communities. Advocacy for improved sanitation is essential to raise awareness and encourage behavior change. Photography, as a powerful tool for communication, can play a key role in this advocacy by capturing and showcasing the effects of poor sanitation and the benefits of improved sanitation practices. Through visual storytelling, photography can help communicate the urgency of sanitation issues, motivate public action, and garner support for sanitation initiatives. This study investigates the role of photography in advocating for improved sanitation in Dikwa LGA, exploring its impact on raising awareness and influencing public health outcomes.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Dikwa LGA, poor sanitation practices are prevalent, and the lack of effective advocacy has contributed to the persistence of these issues. Photography, as a tool for visual advocacy, has not been fully utilized to highlight the importance of sanitation and the consequences of neglecting it. This study seeks to explore how photography can be employed to advocate for improved sanitation, documenting the current situation and showcasing the positive impact of sanitation interventions.
